Department Overview The Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Immunology (MBI) currently comprises 14 full-time faculty members ranked assistant professor and above and six research instructors. Areas of ongoing research within the department include infectious diseases, cancer biology, cardiovascular disease and nutritional biochemistry. The department is responsible for teaching the first-year Medical Biochemistry course and the second-year Medical Microbiology and Immunology course. MBI makes a great contribution to the Ph.D. program in the Biomedical Sciences through formal courses and training of graduate students. Several courses specific for graduate students have been developed and directed by MBI faculty members.
