About Us

A. Philosophy The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences embraces the pursuit of knowledge, wisdom, excellence and service via a synthesis of educational, clinical and research programs. There is an emphasis on training minority professionals in the bio-psychosocial model. A combination of public and private facilities is used to expose residents and students to a variety of patient populations and psychiatric disorders throughout training. B. History The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences was established in 1984. It is one of seven major clinical departments of Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM). C. Mission The department's mission closely parallels that of the school: - To support the mission of MSM in teaching the applied behavioral sciences to medical students and graduate students.
- To provide a comprehensive clinical program in the medical specialty of psychiatry, with emphasis on community psychiatry and service in the public sector.
- To provide postgraduate residency training in psychiatry at the interface of psychiatry and primary care medicine.
- To promote scholarly activity, community education and meaningful research.
