The question shouldn't be "How to save Grady Hospital," it should be "How should Georgia's trauma and indigent care system be structured?" With past expansions of the hospital, it has become more than just a trauma center. Trauma centers and basic indigent care should be better distributed throughout the state, not concentrated in one mega hospital. Sell Grady to Emory, Morehouse or another for-profit or non-profit chain that already has or wants a presence in the region. The name, Grady, conjures up strong emotions on both sides. The pros are that Henry Grady was a great guy, although I doubt if he'd want his name associated with that mismanaged mess. Those on the left think that indigent care is a moral responsibility. On the other side are conservatives who think health care is a privilege, and that those who can't afford care only deserve minimum life support. The right answer is probably somewhere in between. Again, the solution to a problem often depends on how the question is framed. "How to save Grady" is not the correct question, but it is the only question I've heard. What those involved need to do is assume that Grady does not exist, and then answer the question about what the need truly is - kind of like a zero-based budgeting exercise.
