June 5, 2007 MSM Director of the Center of Excellence on Health Disparities Dr. David Satcher received the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Atlanta Business Chronicle. The former U.S. Surgeon General was recognized during the Health-Care Heroes Awards Banquet May 24, 2007 at the Grand Hyatt in Buckhead. A color photo (page 6-A) taken at the awards dinner of Dr. and Mrs. Nola Satcher appeared in the June 1-7, 2007 issue of the Atlanta Business Chronicle. In addition, color photos of Dr. Satcher and the 2007 Health-Care Heroes appeared on page 23-A of the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
Former Director of the MSM Regional Coordinating Center for Hurricane Response (RCCHR) Dr. Dominic Mack made news as the new chief medical officer of AeroClinic. The Atlanta-based health-care company opened its outpost clinic June 4, 2007 at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The firm's goal is to deliver basic health care to travelers quickly, efficiently and affordably. AeroClinic is subleasing space on the third floor of the airport's main terminal. Director of the Center of Excellence on Health Disparities at MSM Dr. David Satcher is a member of the clinic's board of directors. Hartsfield-Jackson employs 55,000, and almost 85 million travelers pass through the Atlanta airport each year.
An interview featuring MSM Assistant Director of the Center of Excellence for Sexual Health Dr. Mitchell Tepper appeared in the May 30, 2007 story, "Disabled Laud Efforts to Make Intimacy Easier" of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune.
June 4, 2007 Dr. Daniel Blumenthal, MSM Chair and Professor , Community Health and Preventive Medicine, was featured on Atlanta television June 1-2, 2007. Blumenthal commented on the current tuberculosis crisis on WXIA-TV. Blumenthal also was the featured guest on the June 2, 2007 Community Forum radio program produced by WCLK-FM 91.9. The live listener call-in show devoted 30 minutes of air time to Blumenthal and tuberculosis education.
MSM Infection Control Officer Dr. Janice Winston was profiled by WXIA-TV June 1-2, 2007 for her work in the field of tuberculosis. In the story that aired on Channel 11, Winston described the increase in reported cases of the disease and testing procedures.
June 1, 2007 Dr. Daniel Blumenthal, MSM Professor and Chair, Department of Community Health and Preventive Medicine, commented on the tuberculosis scare on WXIA-TV 11 Alive.
