MSM on a Mission

Dr. Rohan Mankikar, chief resident, internal medicine, has been invited to speak at his alma mater, the Medical University of Lublin, in Lublin, Poland on Feb. 9, 2015.

Dr. Adriana Harbuzariu, postdoctoral fellow, microbiology, biochemistry and immunology, was selected as a 2015 Health Disparities Research Training Award Program scholar.

Erika T. Brown, associate dean for faculty affairs and development, has been selected to serve on the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Minority Faculty Educational Advisory Committee.

Dr. Ruben Gonzalez-Perez, professor, department of microbiology, biochemistry and immunology, received a grant from the Morehouse School of Medicine/Tuskegee University/UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center Partnership. The grant is a pilot proposal titled, "Leptin-Notch axis in pancreatic cancer."

 The Atlanta Clinical Translational Science Institute (ACTSI) Community Engagement Research Program (CERP) is now accepting applications for the 2015 Dissemination Micro Grant ProgramThe application deadline if Feb. 16, 2015.


The Satcher Health Leadership Institute (SHLI), Division of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP) is now accepting applications for the 2015 Community Health Leadership Program (CHLP). The application deadline is Feb. 18, 2015.


The Benjamin Carson Science Academy is currently accepting applications from rising fifth graders for the Summer Academy. The application deadline is March 6, 2015.


The American Red Cross' Fourteenth Annual Minority Recruitment Luncheon will be on Feb. 26, 2015, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency. Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice will be the guest speaker. RSVP by Feb. 16, 2015. 


The Third Annual Walter Rodney Public Speakers Series takes place each Thursday this Spring semester from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. in the Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library.

Rebecca Lee CrumplerThe first African-American female to earn a medical degree in the U.S. She spent her life improving health in the black community, especially for poor women and children, using both clinic medicine and research. Following the Civil War, she moved from Boston, Mass., to Richmond, Va., to perform missionary work for newly freed slaves
