Resources for Newcomers
An abundance of resources are available on the Web. It is worth reviewing several resources simply because no one website or newspaper lists every apartment. Also, you may find some sources a little more user-friendly than others. Here are some: Counseling Services at Morehouse School of Medicine attempts to keep track of admitted first-year students interested in finding a roommate. If you would like a roommate call Reginald B. Riley, Ph.D., LMSW at 404-752-1776 to determine if students are requesting roommates. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is the major newspaper serving the metro Atlanta area. You can search the newspaper's classified section online at www.ajc.com. Another (more expensive) option is to order back issues of a Sunday paper and skim the classified section. The Creative Loafing is a weekly newspaper that focuses on local culture, events and entertainment in the Atlanta area. They also have a classified section that may be of interest. Check out the Atlanta edition online at www.creativeloafing.com. Apartment Location and Housing Resources: Sublet.com www.realtytimes.com
www.wheatonworldwide.com Resources for Children and School relocation: Georgia Department of Education The last bit of advice is: GET SETTLED BEFORE JULY! Medical school is stressful enough. The last thing you want to do is move and try to attend medical school for the first time. The first couple of weeks in medical school are critical. They set the tone for the entire year. On the first day of class you are about three months behind. Do not try to move and get settled at the last minute. Immediately after receiving your acceptance letter to Morehouse School of Medicine, plan a trip to Atlanta to begin your housing search. Once again, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact Counseling Services at 404-752-1776. |
