SENIOR CORPS, SPECIAL VOLUNTEER PROGRAM (HOMELAND SECURITY)
Funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service, Senior Corps Program, the Center developed a one-year pilot project [Special Volunteer Program for Homeland Security (HLS)] that ran from 2005-2007. HLS was instrumental in developing a medical and non-medical pool of volunteers who are available to assist the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness and other emergency response teams in meeting local efforts in responding to man-made and natural disasters in Fulton County. ACCOMPLISHMENTS Instructed more than 300 community volunteers as emergency preparedness trainers on how to respond to local emergencies and public health needs in the event of a natural or man-made disaster Recruited 100 retired or practicing health professionals to serve in the medical reserve corps. These volunteers are available to be deployed to critical sites as indicated by the Fulton County Health Department. |
