In 2001, Dr. David Satcher, 16th U.S. Surgeon General issued the Call to Action to Promote Sexual Health and Responsible Sexual Behavior, the first governmental recognition that public health includes sexual health. In 2004, as Director of the National Center for Primary Care at Morehouse School of Medicine, Satcher initiated a Sexual Health Program. In 2006, as Interim President of Morehouse School of Medicine, he founded the Center of Excellence for Sexual Health. The Ford Foundation has provided primary support for operational and programmatic activities within the Center of Excellence for Sexual Health.
