Public Health Summit 2007
I am proud that the First-Annual MSM Public Health Summit was held on April 4, 2007. You may click the links below to access the presentations given by our distinguished speakers. There is no school at which it is more fitting to host a Public Health Summit than Morehouse School of Medicine. All of us know our mission: We were established by giants, such as Dr. Louis W. Sullivan, to recruit and train minority and other students as physicians, biomedical scientists, and public health-care professionals committed to the primary health-care needs of the underserved. As we heard at the summit, there are still too many health disparities, both in this nation and globally. The reach of Morehouse School of Medicine spans the nation and the globe. Our alumni work tirelessly to narrow those disparities. Our students prepare to face the same daunting task. Our faculty members strive to teach our students, to discover solutions to health disparities through their research, and to provide outstanding care through our faculty practice. We like to say, "We practice what we teach." Not only have we prepared, and continue to prepare, fine doctors and other health professionals. We are preparing fine people with the needs of the underserved on their hearts. Nelson Mandela said, "A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination." Our alumni, our students, our faculty demonstrate the truth of that statement every day. Eve J. Higginbotham, MD, FACS Dean and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs |
