Morehouse School of Medicine Donates S.T.E.A.M. Lab to West End’s E.L. Connally Elementary School

 

Faculty, Staff, Students and Alumni from Morehouse School of Medicine Have Committed to Volunteering and Mentoring the Children of this Atlanta Public School

 

Last week Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) welcomed over 400 E.L. Connally Elementary School students to campus to announce plans for a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) partnership. MSM’s leadership faculty, staff and students have officially adopted the West End school have committed to donate time as mentors and outfit the school’s new STEAM lab.

Teachers, students, parents and Principal, Lincoln Woods toured the school, took part in experiments and even made slime! They heard words from President and Dean Valerie Montgomery Rice, M.D., and Senior Associate Dean Derrick, M.D., who shared his journey from attending E.L. Connally to becoming an oncology surgeon.

The school’s new STEAM Lab will include a PA system, books, microscopes, Lego construction sets, a 46-inch activity table, digital camera, 3-D printer and many more learning tools for both teachers and students to creatively learn more about STEAM.

MSM volunteers will be mentoring, coordinating field trips and working with teachers and parents for the remaining school year. So, look out for more news.
