MSM Mourns the Passing of Ph.D. Student Sanchia Mills Washington

Morehouse School of Medicine mourns the passing of one of our students, Sanchia Mills Washington. Her life was tragically cut short on Sunday, May 13.

After graduating from Tuskegee University in 2013 with a degree in biology, Sanchia came to MSM that fall to pursue her Ph.D. in biomedical sciences. She was a woman of faith who loved MSM and her classmates very dearly.

“Sanchia was a beloved member of the Morehouse School of Medicine family,” said Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, MSM President and Dean.  “She would want her classmates to continue to do great work. The best way to support the memory of someone who was on the path of greatness, is to be great. Our thoughts are with her family at this time.”

Washington leaves behind her husband, Darrien.

Her funeral will be Saturday, May 19 at Majority Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC at 11 a.m. The church's address is 400 Hudson L Barksdale Blvd Spartanburg, SC, 29306.

The family has launched a GoFundMe page to raise money to pay for her funeral.

The Office of Counseling Services is available to all students who seek their services during this difficult time for the MSM Community.  Please keep Mrs. Washington and her family and friends in your thoughts.
