The Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) is excited to kick off our decennial reaffirmation process by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).  This process includes an internal self-assessment of MSM’s compliance with the core requirements and comprehensive standards prescribed by SACS.   We will complete our compliance certification (formerly the self-study report) by September 2010, as partial fulfillment of the requirements for reaffirmation in 2011.  The on-site visit is scheduled for April 12 – 14, 2011.

The three major committees involved in addressing the self assessment are the Compliance Certification Committee, the Institutional Effectiveness Committee, and the Quality Enhancement Plan Committee.  As the committees move forward in their work, they will be soliciting participation and input from all MSM constituents.  Your cooperation in this important institutional activity is essential to the success of our reaffirmation effort.

We have created a SACS website to inform the MSM community about the reaffirmation process and to provide a snapshot of the information we will ultimately submit to SACS. The site will also contain links to the SACS website where more information about SACS and the reaffirmation process can be obtained.  The site will be regularly updated as we reach milestones towards the completion of this effort.  Please browse through the site to learn more about the committees, what we are doing and how you may be able to assists us in having a successful reaffirmation.  We hope that this will be a useful tool to all who view it.

I believe that the SACS process will be a positive experience on our campus and will make our institution even better.  There is much work to be done by the SACS committees, and I appreciate the time and dedication of those who are participating in this process.

Questions and comments regarding our reaffirmation efforts should be directed to MSM’s SACS liaison, Andrea Fox, at afox@msm.edu or 404-752-1510.
