Frequently Asked Questions
Giving to the Morehouse School of Medicine Founder's Fund Q. What is the Founder's Fund? A. Morehouse School of Medicine Founder's Fund is an annual contribution that provides critical support for the fundamental academic and administrative operations of the medical school. With your gift, you become a contributor to the Founder's Fund. Those giving at $1,000 or more become members of the Dr. Hugh M. Gloster Society, a special giving society of the Founder's Fund. The Founder's Fund helps to bridge the gap between tuition and the true costs of health professions education. Annual donations to the Fund support need-based scholarships, the library, and classroom and technology enhancements. As a relatively small private institution with a large and lofty public mission, Morehouse School of Medicine is highly dependent upon extraordinary philanthropy. Given today's complex and challenging health professions educational environment it is vitally important that we continue to expand the number of donors and increase the level of contributions in support of our unique purpose. Q. Why is there a need for contributions to the Founder's Fund right now? A. Medical research and education are constantly evolving. Morehouse School of Medicine must remain flexible to respond to these changes. New procedures and new discoveries require today's medical students to have access to the most current information and technology. Q. Would my gift make a difference? A. Yes! Every gift is important, and every gift - large or small - counts. When your gift is combined with all other gifts, we all participate in making a difference. Perhaps David Winfield, retired Hall of Fame baseball player and former member of Morehouse School of Medicine Board of Trustees, said it best: "When I write a check to Morehouse School of Medicine, I know I am making more than a gift. I am making a difference." Q. What is the Dr. Hugh M. Gloster Society? A. The Dr. Hugh M. Gloster Society recognizes individual donors who make annual gifts of $1,000 or more to the Founder's Fund. Also, corporate and foundation donors become members of this Society, with annual gifts of $5,000 or more to the Founder's Fund. Those making contributions at Society levels between July 1, 2006, and December 31, 2007, become charter members of the Hugh M. Gloster Society.
