Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency Program

    Grady Health System (GHS) provides general and subspecialty obstetrics and gynecology experiences. It also provides a variety of patient types including both public-assisted and commercially-insured patients. Residents have complete management of all patients in the out-patient and in-patient settings. Residents have complete management of obstetric and gynecology patients. Patients are discussed with faculty for initial surgical disposition and further discussed in pre-op clinic and in pre-op surgical conference. There is direct faculty supervision in all obstetric and gynecologic cases. Night call is supervised by in-house program faculty.

    The Atlanta Medical Center (AMC) campus comprises a 460-bed acute care facility. OBG-3 and OBG-4 residents participate in an array of gynecologic surgical cases with Program faculty, including laparoscopic and vaginal surgeries. Patients are mostly commercially insured. Patients are seen by residents immediately pre-operatively with history and physical exams done as necessary. Program residents continue their patient involvement with operative and post-operative care and management. Program faculty directly supervise residents on all cases. This educational experience includes patients with benign and malignant diseases. There are no night calls. Dr. Sarah Hosford is the faculty coordinator at this location and directly supervises residents.

    Dekalb Regional Health System (DRHS) is a 451-bed community hospital that provides additional General Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as sub-specialty experience. OBG-2, OBG-3, and OBG-4 residents participate in gynecologic surgical and obstetrical cases. 100% of patients are available for resident participation. The patients are covered by Medicaid and commercial carriers. Faculty directly supervise residents on all cases. Residents do not take in-house night calls.

    The Atlanta VA Medical Center (VAMC), located on 26 acres in Decatur, is one of eight medical centers in the VA Southeast Network. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services complete with state-of-the-art technology, education, and research.
