More recently, by using several mutant and gene-knockout mouse models, our lab has focused on (1) structural and biochemical alterations of gap junctions and their connexins associated with cataractogenesis, and (2) the formation and functions of lens-specific aquaporin junctions that are involved in assuring a normally-maturating clear lens.
