Dr. Childs is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and board certified in General Surgery and Critical Care. He received his M.D. degree from Texas A&M College of Medicine in 1989. He completed a general surgery internship and residency in 1994 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. Dr. Childs then completed a trauma/critical care surgery fellowship at the University of California-Davis from 1994 to 1995. Following his fellowship he joined the faculty at the University of Kansas as Chief of the Division of Trauma and Critical Care. In 2001 Dr. Childs was recruited to Texas A&M Health Science Center to develop their trauma center. In 2006 he was promoted to Professor of Surgery and Vice Chairman of the Department of Surgery (Research) at Scott & White Hospital/Texas A&M Health Science Center. In January 2012, Dr. Childs was appointed Chairman of Surgery and Residency Program Director at Morehouse School of Medicine.
