DAMAYEA HARGETT, MD ['08]
On May 17, 2008, Atlanta native Damayea I. Hargett, M.D., (Orthopedic Surgery) stood before hundreds of parents, friends, alumni and other well-wishers to receive her doctor of medicine degree. Hargett was making history. In 1991, her mother, Rosa L. King, graduated from Morehouse School of Medicine. When Hargett received her diploma, she became the first child of an MSM alum to complete studies at the school.
Today, Hargett, who graduated Magna Cum Laude from MSM, is a resident at the University of Pennsylvania program in the field of Orthopedic Surgery—a specialty that traditionally has included a small percentage of women and minorities.
