Morehouse School of Medicine Announces New Chief of Geriatrics

Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) announced that Stephanie Garrett, MD, CHPE, FACP, has been appointed chief of the section of Geriatrics in the Department of Medicine.

Garrett has expertise in the treatment of patients with multiple medical conditions and in the special health problems that become more frequent with age.  She joined the faculty of MSM in September 2008 from the University of Louisville, in Louisville, Kentucky, where she was an assistant professor, medical director of the outpatient geriatrics clinic, and director of the geriatric medicine fellowship.

Garrett received her medical degree from Wright State University School of Medicine in 1998.  She completed her internal medicine residency program at Loyola University Medical Center in June 2001.  Garrett also completed a two-year geriatric medicine fellowship at the University of Chicago Hospitals in June 2003.  Additionally, she was an attending physician from September 2003 to October 2004 at Columbia-St. Mary’s Hospital & North Point Medical Clinic located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Garrett will work in collaboration with members of the Geriatrics Section in the Department of Medicine and other MSM affiliates with geriatrics interests, such as Grady Memorial Hospital, to help develop standards and new approaches to the care of older patients through medical consultation, curriculum development, and research initiatives.
