Community Voices Committed to Establishing Successful Re-entry Pathways for Incarcerated Men

At the end of 2005, more than 2.2 million people were incarcerated in the United States.   Most were African-American men.

Morehouse School of Medicine’s Community Voices and CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien has given voice to this population that is confronted with unemployment, disenfranchisement, limited housing, poor health and lack of access to health services upon re-entrance to society after incarceration.

Community Voices is actively helping to identify the challenges to the establishment of successful reentry pathways and fostering development of model re-entry projects in Georgia. Read more about it here.

“Morehouse School of Medicine has a historical record of caring for those that placed at the margin in society,” said Dr. Henrie Treadwell, director of Community Voices. “We stand by men who are ready to come home and restart their lives with their community and families.”

The 4th Annual Soledad O'Brien Freedom's Voice Awards Gala, held in October 2011, follows O’Brien’s approach of discussing taboo topics in the nation and addressing them, including the disenfranchisement of ex-felons.   Community Voices also recognized Grammy Award winner, actor, entrepreneur and philanthropist Chris "Ludacris" Bridges for his commitment to community service to the nation’s youth through his foundation, The Ludacris Foundation.
