HealthSTAT Honors MSM Students With 2012 Carmen & Arun Mohan Student Award

HealthSTAT Honors MSM Students With 2012 Carmen & Arun Mohan Student Award

Health Students Taking Action Together, HealthSTAT, builds a team of healthcare leaders, who are engaged in their communities, and who recognize that care extends beyond the clinic, and learning beyond the classroom. We unite students in hands-on service, education, and advocacy efforts across Georgia.

On Friday, May 4, HealthSTAT honored Shontreal Cooper, Kenny Esho, and Rebecca Staub, second-year students at Morehouse School of Medicine, for their work in establishing Morehouse’s first student-run clinic in coordination with The Good Samaritan Clinic. Rebecca Staub describes the benefit of the clinic for students and patients:

Having a student run clinic at Good Samaritan Health Center provides MSM students with more opportunities to be involved in the health care of underserved individuals. It is not only a great clinical experience for MS1-MS4 students but it also provides these students with knowledge of management of care when resources are limited. The patients at Good Samaritan are primarily the working poor so we have to be very diligent about providing them with affordable care.

Named after the founders of HealthSTAT, the Carmen and Arun Mohan Student Award is awarded annually to a student or group of students who exemplify the spirit of service and civic engagement that is fundamental to HealthSTAT’s mission.
