SHLI Announces First-Ever Endowed Chair in Sexuality and Religion

SHLI Announces First-Ever Endowed Chair in Sexuality and Religion

Morehouse School of Medicine  hosted a commemorative ceremony on Thursday, May 31, 2012,  to announce the creation of an endowed academic chair devoted to issues related to sexuality and religion. Under the Satcher Health Leadership Institute, The Marta S. Weeks and David E. Richards Endowed Chair in Sexuality and Religion will develop innovative health and pastoral services as well as curricula, research and public leadership related to issues that bridge the topics of sexuality, religion and medicine. Through this unique chair, the first ever of its kind, Morehouse School of Medicine will provide national and global leadership addressing the challenges of sexuality and sexual health in the worlds of medicine and religion.

The retired Reverend David Richards is a retired Episcopal bishop who founded Morehouse School of Medicine’s Center for Sexuality and Religion (CSR) in 1989 to advocate for helping clergy with sexuality issues and training. Rev. Marta S. Weeks is an ordained priest in the Episcopal Church and a major benefactor to CSR, which became part of the Satcher Health Leadership Institute in 2008.
