    Morehouse School of Medicine Salutes Our 2012 Graduates

    On Saturday, May 19, 2012 Morehouse School of Medicine conferred 53 doctoral degrees in Medicine, three doctoral degrees of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences, and 25 master’s degrees in the areas of Biomedical Research, Clinical Research and Public Health.

    The 2012 graduates will make 1333 Morehouse School of Medicine alumni who will advance medical care, education and research throughout the world.

    Consistently, 64% of our graduates choose residencies in primary care, versus the national average of 45%. Of Morehouse School of Medicine graduates more than 45% are practicing in Georgia in some of the state’s most vulnerable communities.

    The 2012 Morehouse School of Medicine Commencement was held at the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel on the Morehouse College campus. Ambassador Andrew Young served as the commencement speaker for Morehouse School of Medicine’s Commencement.

    Mr. Young earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Howard University in 1951 and a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Hartford Seminary in 1955. He served as past at several churches and was an active civil rights leader, working alongside Martin Luther King, Jr. and Ralph Abernathy.

    Young was elected Mayor of Atlanta, United States Congressman, and as United States Ambassador to the United Nations during the Carter Administration. In 1996, he was awarded the Olympic Order, the highest award of the Olympic Movement, for his work as International Vice President for Law Engineering and Chair of the Centennial Olympic Games hosted in Atlanta.
