    Leslie A. Rubin, MD recieves the AAP's Carl Sia MD Award

    Congratulations to Dr. Leslie A. Rubin the 2012 Recipient of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Calvin C. J. Sia, MD  Community Pediatrics Medical Home Leadership & Advocacy Award.

    Dr. Rubin has served children with special healthcare needs for over 34 years, in Cleveland, Boston, and, for the last 17 years, in Atlanta. In each setting, he has established effective models of interdisciplinary, culturally sensitive, coordinated clinical care, embodying the tenets of the medical home; thus, endearing him to his patients, and garnering the respect and accolades of his professional colleagues. He currently provides this model of care for children with developmental disabilities in busy clinical practices at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding, and at Developmental Pediatrics Specialists of Sandy Springs. Children and families from across the State of Georgia seek his services and loyally follow his guidance.
    Named in honor of Calvin C J Sia, MD, FAAP, the Calvin C J Sia Community Pediatrics Medical Home Leadership & Advocacy Award recognizes pediatricians who have demonstrated clinical excellence, community action, and advocacy for children. This award honors those pediatricians who have exemplified leadership and excellence by advocating for and providing a medical home for all children, especially children with special health care needs. 

    The award is presented to community pediatricians who:
    Implement AAP policy related to community pediatrics and the provision of medical homes 
    Provide culturally competent care through the recognition of cultural, spiritual, economic, environmental, and political forces that have an impact on the health of children 
    Partner with families in the provision of medical homes for their children 
    Provide leadership in the community to improve child health outcomes 
    Commit to continuous improvement in the delivery of care in a medical home 
    Show clinical excellence in community pediatrics
