Equipment/Technology

The fundamental goal of the Functional Genomics Laboratory at MSM is to provide an extensive, yet finite profile of the genes expressed in cells, tissues or organs at any given time. Technology Resources: Recent technology updates to the core include the newest model of the Agilent Microarray Scanner. In addition, a new Tapestation to replace the Bioanalyzer with the latest technology advancements has been acquired. Agilent now offers Exon Microarrays for detection of alternative splicing and gene expression. Investigators can select from the designs for human, rat and mouse or create custom designs that allow investigators to focus on diseases or larger studies. These new additions allow low concentrations of RNA to be used and conserve precious human or animal samples with full flexibility in study designs and whole transcriptome analysis in one day. Additional services include RNA seq analysis with fast and accurate short read alignments (8 million reads) or (20 million reads) for a slightly higher cost.

Service Charges

We have established competitive pricing for services offered by the Core Laboratory. (Custom slides require at $4,000 set-up charge (one time) plus batches of slides at a cost which varies from $400 - $800 per slide. Note: customized slides can also be sold either by the investigator or by Agilent as a means to cover cost.) The lab will work with investigators to select appropriate technology for their needs.

The cost per array ranges from $450 to $650. This includes RNA isolation, if needed, and basic analysis. Customized arrays can also be bought from Agilent. Our services now include MicroRNA arrays.
