Dr. Dickey earned his PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Dakota in 2011. Previously he earned a Masters in Applied Behavioral Science, with an emphasis in Organizational Development from the Leadership Institute of Seattle at Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. Prior to arriving at the Satcher Health Leadership Institute, he completed a one-year pre-doctoral internship at Counseling and Psychological Services at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
Dr. Dickey has been actively involved in the American Psychological Association (APA). He served as the Chair for the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students Committee on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Concerns. He also served for four years as the Co-Chair for the Committee for Transgender and Gender Variance Issues for the Society for the Psychological Study of LGBT Issues (Division 44). He was recently appointed to serve as the Co-Chair for the APA Task Force on Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Transgender and Gender Non-conforming Clients.
Dr. Dickey has a strong interest in addressing the needs of the transgender community. This includes access to competent, strengths-based care. His research interests are focused on the needs of female-to-male individuals, a population underrepresented in research up to this point.
