Dr. Powers completed her undergraduate studies at Spelman College and is a 2003 graduate of Morehouse School of Medicine. She completed her pediatric residency at the Boston Combined Residency Program in Pediatrics (Children’s Hospital Boston/Boston Medical Center). Following her residency, Dr. Powers competed an academic fellowship in pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Boston and received a Masters of Public Health from the Harvard University School of Public Health. Prior to joining the Satcher Health Leadership Institute, she served as the medical director of the Adolescent Center and director of the Teen and Tot program, a multidisciplinary clinic for adolescent parents, at Boston University Medical Center.
Dr. Powers’ academic and clinical interests are focused on improving sexual and reproductive health among adolescents, specifically adolescent mothers. In addition, she is interested in program development and policy implementation as a strategy to improve adolescent health in medically underserved communities.
