Email: makinbami@msm.edu | | Mukaila A. Akinbami is a Research Instructor of Medicine at the Cardiovascular Research Institute of Morehouse School of Medicine. He serves as Scientific Manager for Cardiovascular Research Institute. Dr. Akinbami is also an Affiliated Scientist in the Department of Molecular Medicine, Yerkes Primate Research Center of Emory University in Atlanta. He received his Bachelor of Science degree (magma cum laude) from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. He received his Master of Science and Doctor of Phylosophy degrees from University of Missouri in Columbia. Dr. Akinbami completed his postdoctoral training in Physiology and Endocrinology in the laboratory of Dr. David Mann at Morehouse School of Medicine. Research Interests Dr. Akinbami’s research laboratory is focused on integrated physiology of transgenic animal models of hypertension, defining the role of high blood pressure on vascular function and gene expression profile in human and animal models of hypertension, diabetes and obesity. His research interests include physiologic genomics of hypertension, vascular remodeling and its complications including stroke and mental health in the context of hypertension, diabetes and obesity.
