The mission of SERC is to contribute towards the collective improvement of health in African Americans, people of color, and the underserved. SERC’s four-fold mission is to:
- improve health and function based on empirical population-based research
- elucidate discrete and interactive relationships associated with genetics, biology, and social factors
- play a leadership role in generating scientific knowledge regarding potential culturally relevant pathogenic etiologies and innovative intervention/ prevention strategies to ameliorate health status disparities
- provide rigorous training in applied, quantitative population-based social epidemiology research methods for undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral students.
