    GME Annual Report

    Resident Alumni Map

The Office of Graduate Medical Education is dedicated to serving the residency training programs sponsored by Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) and is essential to accomplishing the mission of the institution. MSM sponsors seven residency programs in: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Public Health and Preventive Medicine, and General Surgery. In addition to our primary affiliated hospital, Grady Memorial Hospital, our residents train at several community practice locations — in and around the exciting Atlanta metropolitan area — that offer ample 'hands-on' experiences and the teaching support of an award-winning faculty.

Our programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and as the sponsoring institution, MSM adheres to the "Institutional Requirements" of The Essentials of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME, Current Edition). We participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and are listed in the American Medical Association’s Graduate Medical Education Directory and the Fellowship and Residency Electronic Interactive Database Access System (FREIDA). MSM assigns the responsibility for monitoring residency education to its Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC).

Seventy (70) percent of our residency program graduates have pursued general specialty practice. We encourage second- and third-year medical students to consider these questions when deciding on a career path:

    • Is it your goal to be just another private practitioner, or to also be an active force for change in the health and well-being of this nation?
    • How will health policies and practices change the approaches made toward the clinical treatment of the undeserved?
    • How can you effect positive change in health care?

Joint Residents' Graduation & Resident Compact Ceremony

Morehouse School of Medicine celebrated its 17th Joint Resident's Graduation on Friday, June 1, 2012.  Thirty-three physicians received certificates from the following programs: Family Medicine, General Medicine, General Pediatrics, General Psychiatry, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Public Health and General Preventive Medicine.

On Wednesday, June 28, 2012, the Resident Compact Ceremony was held in the Louis W. Sullivan National, Auditorium.   The ceremony represents a compact made between resident physicians and their teachers as a declaration of the fundamental principles of Graduate Medical Education and the major commitments of both residents and faculty to the educational process, to each other, and to the patients they serve.
