Morehouse School of Medicine Receives $100,000 MetLife Grant for 100 Black Men Health Challenge
Atlanta — December 2 — A $100,000 grant from MetLife Foundation to fund the 100 Black Men Health Challenge Toolkit, will give Morehouse School Medicine ( MSM) the opportunity to continue an important community partnership, which is focused on improving the health and well-being of communities and families.

Atlanta — December 2 — A $100,000 grant from MetLife Foundation to fund the 100 Black Men Health Challenge Toolkit, will give Morehouse School Medicine ( MSM) the opportunity to continue an important community partnership, which is focused on improving the health and well-being of communities and families.
"MetLife Foundation continues to show extraordinary philanthropy with its support of Morehouse School of Medicine," said MSM President Dr. John E. Maupin Jr. "This generosity provides us with the funds to launch the MSM/100 Black Men Health Challenge Toolkit to promote healthy lifestyle changes and improve the health of the nation."
The Health Challenge is built around five guidelines that serve as major points of education for participants. The guidelines are: increased physical activity with a goal of at least five workout sessions weekly; the consumption of nine fruits and vegetables daily; avoidance of tobacco and alcohol; a committed relationship with a primary care provider; and willingness to serve as a mentor and role model of healthy lifestyles and behaviors, including weight loss and control, to family, friends, and, most especially, to youth.
The Toolkit will allow interactive transmittal of the Health Challenge content through manuals for facilitators; a DVD for trainers; CDs; periodicals; and other user-friendly materials that promote healthy, inter-generational lifestyles, behavior, and role modeling. The training DVD will feature experts in each of the five areas, and will provide brief presentations on the importance of the Health Challenge guidelines.
The Toolkit timeline includes a January 2009 launch of the "Train the Trainer" component to ensure that leaders are prepared to rollout the Toolkit program through 100 Black Men chapters, including Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, New Orleans, and New York. An evaluation of the Toolkit will be completed and a final report will be available in January 2010.
