Atlanta University Center Schools Join Hands in the 2009 United Way Campaign

ATLANTA, Oct. 27, 2009 -The Atlanta University Center institutions-Morehouse School of Medicine, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, and Spelman College-will join hands on November 3 to Live United, in its first combined United Way Campaign and the AUC United Way Block Party!

ATLANTA, Oct. 27, 2009 -The Atlanta University Center institutions-Morehouse School of Medicine, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, and Spelman College-will join hands on November 3 to Live United, in its first combined United Way Campaign and the AUC United Way Block Party!

"Our goal is to raise a total of $55,000 with a stretch goal of $100,000 to support United Way programs," said Dr. John E. Maupin Jr., president of Morehouse School of Medicine. "We are looking forward to making a financial impact in our community through supporting the United Way programs."

The day will kick off with teams of volunteers distributing breakfast snacks and collecting donations from AUC employees coming to work from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Former Atlanta Braves legend, Falcons great and MSM Trustee Brian Jordan will serve as the master of ceremonies for the "AUC United Way Block Party" scheduled to take place on Welborn Street SW, on the AUC campus from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The presidents of all four AUC schools will be participating in "Presidents' Jeopardy": Maupin from MSM, Dr. Carlton E. Brown from Clark Atlanta University, Dr. Robert Franklin from Morehouse College, and Dr. Beverly Tatum from Spelman College. Milton Little, president and CEO of United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, also will address the audience about the importance of this year's campaign. In addition, AUC employees will give testimonies about their support of United Way. The event will conclude with drawings for prizes for those in attendance.

An estimated crowd of 2,000 AUC faculty, staff, students and alumni are expected to be on hand for the "AUC United Way Block Party."
