MSM on a Mission
 SHLI Program Manager Lerissa Smith was a panelist at Sierra Leone's 55th Independence Anniversary Symposium on April
27 at Montgomery College Cultural and Art Center in Silver Spring, Md. The theme was
"Diaspora Engagement - Building Partnerships in the Areas of Health Education and
Investment." Smith participated on the panel focused on diaspora participation in the health sector
post-Ebola.
 MSM Family Medicine's Dr. Folashade Omole, Dr. Michelle Nichols, Jamie Baker, and Morehouse Healthcare Director of Operations Louis Simmons recently met with East Point Mayor Jannquell Peters to discuss opportunities to engage the East Point community and future collaborations.
 Morehouse Healthcare is celebrating Nurses Week (May 6-12) by honoring all PSRs, nurses and clinical staff all week with events that
include dessert day, a luncheon and gifts. This year's Nurses Week theme is "Culture
of Safety: It Starts with You." Nurses Week signifies the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth (the founder of modern nursing) and Mary Eliza Mahoney (the first black professional nurse).
 Dr. L. Ray Matthews's appearance on the "Dr. Richard and Cindy Becker TV Show" in Dallas, Texas aired on May 4, 2016. Dr. Matthews discussed the multiple uses of
vitamin D in trauma patients and athletes.
 On May 5, MSM held its Town Hall and President and Dean Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice and the Executive Leadership Team reported on and answered employees' questions about vacation day policy, the new
compliance hotline, facilities updates, faculty & staff dinners, and the $35 million
investment the school recently received.
 On May 10, MSM celebrated its 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35-year employees and gave
out Team Spirit, Rising Star and Leadership awards at the Employee Awards and Service

 Morehouse School of Medicine's Dr. Eric L. Flenaugh's cancer research successfully diagnosed 90% of peripheral lung nodules using next-generation

 Exosome Sciences, Inc. (ESI), which recently announced production of an exosome isolation
diagnostic platform, disclosed that Morehouse School of Medicine researchers have
demonstrated that urinary exosomes isolated from HIV-infected individuals contain
proteins that may serve as a diagnostic tool. <<MORE>>
 Former U.S. Surgeon General and MSM alumna Dr. Regina Benjamin to receive the 2016 Eugene T. Davidson, MD, Public Service Award on May 28 at the
AACE 25th Annual Scientific & Clinical Congress in Orlando. <<MORE>>
