Grady Memorial Hospital
Grady Memorial Hospital is our main teaching hospital with over 1,100 beds. It is the largest public hospital in the State of Georgia and the only public hospital for the City of Atlanta. It's the 5th largest public hospital in the United States, as well as one of the busiest Level 1 Trauma Centers in the country.
Grady improves the health of the community by providing quality, comprehensive healthcare in a compassionate, culturally competent, ethical and fiscally responsible manner. Grady maintains its commitment to the under-served of Fulton and Dekalb counties, while also providing care for residents of metro Atlanta and throughout Georgia. Grady leads through its clinical excellence, innovative research, and progressive medical education and training.
The neurology residents will spend half of their time during training at Grady. The Morehouse School of Medicine neurology and internal medicine faculty supervise and teach MSM residents on the inpatient, outpatient (Continuity clinic) and sub-specialty services at Grady. There are adequate number of faculty and ancillary staff to support the volume of patients, teaching, research and mentoring responsibilities.
Grady is equipped with an advanced imaging center, state of the art rehabilitation facilities, and the tools and resources necessary to ensure adequate training of our neurology residents.

Veterans Health Administration is the largest healthcare system in the United States and the Atlanta VA Medical Center serves the healthcare needs of more than 130,000 Veterans of northeast Georgia. It is a Level 1A tertiary care institution with state-of-the-art technology, education and research facilities. This facility is equipped with an advanced imaging center, rehab facilities, and outpatient practices.
During the residents' rotation at the Atlanta VA Medical Center, they will participate in didactic activities at all levels of training to include lectures, conferences, courses, labs, asynchronous learning, simulations, case discussions, grand rounds, didactic teaching, and education in critical appraisal of medical evidence.
Neurology PGY 1 Residents will be integrated with the Internal Medicine Residency program and will follow their schedule. This will include inpatient Internal Medicine rotation as well as rotations through Coronary Care Unit, Emergency Room as well as electives. Residents will be supervised by experienced faculty at the VA and will ensure adequate experience in Internal Medicine and related specialties.
During PGY 2-4 years of training in Neurology, the residents will attend outpatient
clinics as well as be part of the inpatient service.
The Atlanta VA Hospital Neurology clinics are a medical specialty outpatient clinic
within the VA hospital system and the patient population attending these outpatient
clinics receives treatment for general neurology and subspecialties in neurology.
Residents at all levels of training will be supervised by board-certified faculty
with varied levels of experience and expertise. Residents will spend 24-26 weeks per
year at each level of training and will be embedded in the clinics and be part of
the treatment team.
As part of the inpatient service, Residents will provide inpatient consultations and direct patient care for all patients referred to Neurology service. They will manage patients with emphasis on evaluation, management and follow up, under the supervision of experienced faculty. Residents will gain knowledge and experience in treating common and uncommon neurological disorders, especially in the context of appropriate socio-cultural factors.

Residents will be exposed to general child neurology, as well as subspecialty areas of headache medicine, epilepsy, ADHD, movement disorders, autonomic disorders, neurodegenerative disorders as well as neuro-developmental disorders of childhood. The Child Neurology training during PGY 2-4 will be at the PANDA Neurology & Atlanta Headache Specialists.
Grady Health System is one of the largest safety net health systems in the United
States.
It consists of the 953-bed Grady Memorial Hospital that is also the level I trauma
center for the metro Atlanta area. The Grady hospital has inpatient Neurology service,
Neuro-ICU and the Marcus Stroke and Neuroscience Center is a
Joint Commission designated Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center.
The Atlanta Veterans Administration provides health care services at 22 locations serving a 50-county area in northeast Georgia. The Atlanta VA Medical Center – the location of training for Neurology Residents is accredited by the Joint Commission and has a research program ranked near the top 10 in the VA system.
