FERPA - Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that is designed to protect the student’s privacy interest in his or her education records that educational institutions manage and to grant students the opportunity to review their records to assure accuracy.

To assist MSM faculty and staff in understanding FERPA and its impact on their professional responsibilities, the Office of Compliance & Corporate Integrity has developed an online tutorial that can be accessed here.

The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 is reflected in the below policy and student handbook.

To get general information about FERPA, please visit the U.S. Department of Education's website.
