Community Programs
The Imani Project is a community-based prevention program focusing on the prevention of substance abuse and HIV transmission. The project name means faith, and it refers to program participants’ ability to cultivate faith in their individual and community abilities to lead healthy, full, and productive lives.
The Imani Project is a three-year program designed to strengthen African-American youth and their families who reside in the Zone One communities Bankhead and Bowen homes. Program goals include the following:
Use evidence-based community strategies to promote program that will be self-sustaining through the involvement of faith-based organizations, nontraditional businesses within targeted communities.
Increase participant skills and abilities to prevent involvement with alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs and to avoid the transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus/sexually transmitted diseases (HIV/STDs) for youth who are in the 9-22 year old age range and their families.
