MSM GMEC Hosts its Annual Retreat and a Community Engagement Day at E.L. Connally Elementary

Morehouse School of Medicine's (MSM) Graduate Medical Education (GME) department hosted its 2015 Annual Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) Retreat with the theme "Living the Mission with E.L. Connally Elementary School." In keeping with MSM's mission, the GME department wanted to host its retreat in the community it serves and worked exclusively with neighborhood vendors to ensure all revenue also went into the community.

The retreat included a community engagement project where each of the 23 classrooms had at least one physician and one administrator who led a project for the children to complete prior to the end of the event. The community engagement project was a great success and included all 371 children at the school. MSM had 54 physicians and administrators who participated in the school-wide activity, and all students received a hat, scarf, and teddy bear designed for the event.

MSM GMEC looks forward to continually engaging E.L. Connally Elementary and will continue to build relationships with the students on a monthly basis through a variety of activities.
