Welcome to the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Immunology


The Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Immunology (MBI) currently comprises 14 full-time faculty members ranked assistant professor and above and four research instructors. Areas of ongoing research within the department include infectious diseases, cancer biology, cardiovascular disease, and nutritional biochemistry. The department is responsible for teaching medical biochemistry to first-year medical students and a Medical Microbiology/Immunology course to second-year medical students. MBI makes an enormous contribution to the graduate programs in the biomedical sciences through formal courses and research training. Several courses specific for graduate students have been developed and are directed by MBI faculty members.
