Program Objectives

Student ResearchThe main objective of the B.S./M.S. Program in Neuroscience is to expose young students with interest in science to the thrills and intrigue of neuroscience research early in their academic career. The hope is that this early exposure will interest many of these students to consider neuroscience research as a viable career option.  In addition, this early exposure will also help students to get the background needed to increase the chances of success in pursuing a Ph.D. and further academic training.

The focus of the program is to expose students to the various sub-fields of neuroscience with an emphasis on teaching the development of rigorous scientific thought and experimental design. After two years of graduate level coursework, students spend a year doing intensive research that includes developing a thesis under the personal guidance of a faculty mentor. This shows students how coursework with an emphasis in experimental design is implemented.
