ATLANTA – JUNE 28, 2022 – Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) President and CEO Valerie Montgomery Rice, MD, FACOG, was named an inaugural member of a newly formed Health Equity Advisory Board announced by The Chartis Group, a leading healthcare advisory and analytics firm. With this appointment, Dr. Montgomery Rice joins Garth Graham, MD, director and global head of healthcare and public health for Google/YouTube; Joy Lewis, SVP of Health Equity Strategies and executive director of the Institute for Diversity and Health Equity (IFDHE) at the American Hospital Association; and Darshak Sanghavi, MD, global chief medical officer for Babylon.
"The formation of our Health Equity Advisory Board comes at a pivotal time – a time when health disparities have never been more apparent and the need to address them never more paramount," said Ken Graboys, CEO of The Chartis Group. "We look forward to working in concert with these four exceptional leaders who have done so much to address health equity; and we look forward to working with them to also help our clients move the needle toward fair and just health outcomes for all."
The board will help Chartis develop and drive an ambitious, results-oriented health equity agenda as the firm works with leading healthcare organizations to achieve measurable health equity advances in the communities they serve and beyond.
"The Chartis Group is at the forefront of helping some of our leading healthcare organizations navigate the future of care delivery," Dr. Montgomery Rice said. "The company has tremendous potential to truly deliver more personalized, efficient, and novel therapeutics. I look forward to leveraging my expertise across both academic and medical fields, as well as advancing the company's goal of advancing healthcare delivery and bringing innovative yet pragmatic approaches to healthcare's most complex challenges."
Dr. Montgomery Rice serves as both president and CEO of Morehouse School of Medicine. She is the first woman in the school's history to assume that leadership role. An infertility specialist and researcher, she has held faculty positions and leadership roles at various health centers, including academic health centers, throughout her career. Most notably, she was the founding director of the Center for Women's Health Research at Meharry Medical College, one of the nation's first research centers devoted to studying diseases that disproportionately impact women of color. Advancing equity in healthcare, access to care, and improving diversity among physicians and scientists' ranks have always been among Dr. Montgomery Rice's top priorities.
