Research Enterprise

The School’s research stature and reputation have grown exponentially over the last decade, fueled in large part by significant investments in our research infrastructure with funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), American Heart Association, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the Georgia Coalition and others.

In 2012, MSM received more than $54 million in NIH funding. The outcomes of our research activities have already resulted in the establishment of centers, institutes, and programs with our signature areas of research being cardio-metabolic diseases, cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other infectious diseases, and neurological disorders — all areas that disproportionately impact minority communities.
