The 2012 James Reed Lectureship will address NIDDK Programs to Reduce and Eliminate
Health Disparities. The Lectureship will be held September 19, 2012 at 12pm in the
Louis W. Sullivan National Center for Primary Care Auditorium. Lawrence Agodoa, MD,
FACP Director of Chronic Kidney Disease and End Stage Renal Disease Programs, Director
of the Office of Minority Health Research Coordination National Institute of Diabetes
and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, National Institutes of Health will serve as the
keynote speaker.
The James Reed Lectureship started in August 2010. The inaugural event was held on
August 18, 2010 to give honor to Dr. Reed for his dedication of service to Morehouse
School of Medicine. Dr. Reed is an important part of the Medical School in that he
has participated in its growth to its current status as a high quality M.D degree
granting institution. His contributions as a faculty member have helped to make possible
the success that Morehouse School of Medicine enjoys today.
Dr. Reed has been with MSM since 1985 and has accumulated an admirable series of accomplishments
during his tenure. He was initially appointed as the first Chair of Medicine and served
as Interim Chair of Family Medicine and Residency Program Director for the internal
medicine residency program. He is a highly respected member of the medical community,
both nationally and internationally through his work with MSM residency programs,
and his extensive work with Diabetes and Hypertension. As well, being a scholar,
he is recognized as an expert not only in the areas mentioned but also as an Endocrinologist.
While maintaining this level of service to the institution he has continued to educate
residents and students on the Grady wards and is a valued educator. It is necessary
that his knowledge and dedication to teaching and patient care be recognized as a
part of MSM’s history and continued growth.
