Atlanta - Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) in Atlanta announced today that Cigdem Delano will assume the post of chief information officer Sept. 8, 2008. In her new role, Delano will be responsible for implementing an information technology strategy that sustains a scalable network, supports a common operational database and optimizes technology resources to improve access to information for strategic decision making and better support the institution's core activities. She will direct and manage academic, administrative, telecommunication, clinical and institutional computing.

"We are excited that Cigdem Delano will be joining the information technology team at MSM. Her business acumen and international experience will assist us in delivering greater value to our students, residents, patients and stakeholders. Her role will be integral to the institution's strategic direction, development and growth," said MSM Vice President for Administration and Strategic Management Dr. William Alexander.

Most recently Delano served as president of B.I.T. Synergies LLC in Atlanta. She also has worked as deputy executive director, chief operating officer and chief technology officer for Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) in Atlanta - created in 2000 to oversee state government use of IT and to introduce business practices, innovation and an entrepreneurial approach to IT management. As deputy, Delano oversaw the relocation of the state's data center to a new state-of-the-art facility. In addition, she helped grow GTA to more than 100 staff in nine months and to more than 800 staff with the merger of the state's IT application development and operations groups in July 2001.

Prior to her GTA work, Delano served as a certified executive project manager of the Global Business Partner Program at IBM Corporation in Atlanta, and as a project manager for Equifax Card Services in Canada.

Delano graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta with a Bachelor of Science in Information and Computer Science. She has served on boards for the Center for Family Resources, the Cobb County Industry Advisory Board, and the Technology Association of Georgia Business and Technology Alliance.
