Morehouse School of Medicine Unveils Portrait of Inaugural First Lady
E. Ginger Sullivan Honored for Being a Champion for the Institution

SEPTEMBER 28, 2009 - An attorney, a global health advocate, and a champion of the arts, E. Ginger Sullivan, J.D., wife of founding dean and first president of Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) Louis W. Sullivan, M.D. recently received recognition for her invaluable contributions to the institution.
On Sept. 18, 2009 following the 25th Fall Convocation, where MSM welcomed its largest entering class, the unveiling of a portrait painting of Mrs. Sullivan took place in the atrium that bears her name which is inside the Louis W. Sullivan National Center for Primary Care on MSM's Westview campus.
"Mrs. Sullivan is a remarkable person and deserving of this honor," said MSM President Dr. John E. Maupin Jr. "Her tireless efforts have made a difference in the lives of our faculty and staff and especially our students."
During the ceremony, remarks were given by Dr. Marlene MacLeish who represented the Friends of MSM Inc., an organization founded by Mrs. Sullivan in 1976, which raised tens of thousands of dollars for MSM student scholarships. Mrs. Sullivan also served as president. Carolyn Young, wife of former ambassador and Atlanta mayor Andrew Young spoke on behalf of The Links Inc, of which Mrs. Sullivan is a longtime member.
The painting, by renowned portrait artist Rossin, was commissioned by Dr. Sullivan as a gift to the institution in honor of his wife being the inaugural first lady of MSM. Rossin's U.S. portraits include George W. Bush and George H. W. Bush and former presidents of The Coca-Cola Company Doug Ivester, Roberto Goizueta and Neville Isdell and co-founder of The Home Depot, Arthur Blank.
Mrs. Sullivan has served on the boards of the High Museum of Art, the Alliance Theatre and True Colors Theatre in Atlanta, Wolf Trap, and the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, DC. She also served on the boards of UNICEF and the Arthritis Foundation of Georgia. She is a member of the Buckhead Cascade Chapter of the Links Inc., and the auxiliaries to the Atlanta Medical Association and the National Medical Association. A graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, Mass., she also earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Woodrow Wilson School of Law in Atlanta.
