Eleven (11) HCOP College Ambassador Students presented at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS)

The Office for Educational Outreach & Health Careers Pipeline Initiatives is proud to announce that eleven (11) Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) Academy College Ambassadors submitted their abstracts for presentation and were accepted to present and compete in various categories at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS). We sponsored all students and five (5) faculty/staff members to attend the conference for presentations, networking, and overall exposure. ABRCMS took place Anaheim, California November 13–16, 2019.

The four-day conference included:

  • 2,100 poster and oral presentations given by undergraduate and postbaccalaureate students
  • Scientific and professional development sessions
  • Over 425 exhibit booths
  • Networking and mentoring opportunities
  • Plenary speakers
  • Conference programming tracks for undergraduates, graduates & postdoctoral scientists, and non-students
  • Awards banquet

Martin Penaherrera won a top award in the category of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Public Health with his poster entitled, “Investigating the Relationship Between Depression and Accessibility to Quality Healthcare in the U.S. Minority.”

MSM Receives $3.2M Federal Grant for Health Careers Academy

Morehouse School of Medicine secures a five-year, $3.2 million federal grant for Morehouse School of Medicine’s Office for Educational Outreach and Health Careers. Securing this grant will enhance and expand the office’s work to recruit and train these students to help make their dreams come true.
