Information for books, renewals, reservations, and printing services available at the MSM Library. No food or drink is allowed.
MSM Library Services
Materials may be renewed twice by calling (404) 752-1536, or in person at the circulation desk in the library.
The key to the collection is the automated library computer system. You can search the catalog by Author, Subject, Title, and Keyword. All of the library's cataloged materials and journals are listed. Desktop access is available anywhere you have Internet access. Through the MSM home page, click on Library and click Online Catalog. Inquiries regarding the use of the OPAC may be addressed to the Information Services Department at (404) 752-1536 or other Library staff members.
Books are shelved in the open stacks starting in the Reading Room according to the National Library of Medicine and the Library of Congress Classification Systems and may be checked out for two (2) weeks.
- Bound Journals
Bound Journals are arranged alphabetically on shelves in the stacks beginning in the center of the open stacks area and may be checked out for three (3) days.
- Unbound Journals
The library is presently subscribing to more than 400 journal titles, including more than 4000 electronic journals. Current issues of journals are shelved on shelves at the back end of the open stack area in alphabetical order. Unbound Journals cannot be checked out.
- Audio-Visual (AV) and CD-ROM Programs
The Library has a number of educational programs on AV and CD-ROM. These resources are located at the circulation desk for utilization within the library. CD-ROM programs must be used in the library.
- Reference Collection
The Reference Collection is located in the Reading Room. Dictionaries, encyclopedias, directories, indexes and abstract collections are housed here for consultation or research. These items cannot be checked out.
- Reserve Books
Required materials for course assignments are at the Circulation Desk. These items may be signed out for three hours of use within the library only. Reserve items can be checked out nightly one hour before closing and must be returned no later than one hour after opening the next day. Fines on non-returned items will be imposed at a rate of $.50 cents per hour per item. Reserves Questions? Call extension 1536.
- Purchasing Recommendations
If you know of a particular book or journal that you would like to see in the library please fill out a blue card at the Circulation Desk.
- Extended Study Area
The library provides a study area in the front of the library, which is open 24 hours. You must have an MSM Student Badge to access the study area after the library is closed.
- Information Consultation
A number of services is available, including mediated online searching, library instruction for individuals by appointment and walk-in, bibliographic verification of titles, authors and sources and in-depth reference services. - Copying or Printing in the Library
Copiers are available in the library for copying and printing and may be done using a copy card, currency, or coins. Copying or printing is charged at a rate of $.10 cents per page. Copy cards may be purchased for $1.00 from the Venda-Coder card dispenser in the library or via pre-approved requisition through the MSM business office. Color copies may be made for a charge of $.75 cents per page. Copying or printing questions? Call extension 1524.
- Interlibrary Loans
Materials not available in-house will be obtained by loan or photocopy within the provisions of copyright laws. Requests may be submitted electronically via the MSM Connect or the Library Webpage or by filling out the appropriate forms in person. There is a fee for this service for non-MSM users: Filled Request (by mail) - $11.00, Rush Request - $15.00, Request by fax - $13.00. All Requestors please add $.10 cents per page for documents over 25 pages. There is a 50-page maximum for this service. Interlibrary Loan Questions? Call extension 1528.
