Ph.D. Student Salim Stewart Named ATLANTIS KUH Predoctoral Trainee
Salim Stewart, a second-year PhD student in Biomedical Sciences at Morehouse School
of Medicine (MSM), has been named an ATLANTIS Kidney, Urology and Hematology (KUH) Predoctoral Trainee. His selection includes stipend support, travel funding and training-related expenses.
Salim conducts research in Dr. Xueying Zhao’s lab, a Professor of Physiology at MSM, focusing on kidney and liver damage.
“What drives my interest in biomedical research is my curiosity about the specific mechanisms that cause disease or dysfunction, and how those mechanisms can be rectified,” he shared.
Through the ATLANTIS Program, headquartered at Emory University School of Medicine, Salim will have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers not only across the Atlanta area, but nationwide.
“I’m excited to learn more about kidney, urology and hematology from some of the brightest minds in the field,” he said.
Salim also expressed that this award gives him greater confidence in his work as a researcher in training. “It reinforces that my research matters to those impacted by kidney, urology and hematology disorders.”
His appointment reflects MSM’s mission to advance scientific discovery in support of healthcare access optimization.
