An estimated one million people are currently living with HIV in the United States, with approximately 40,000 new infections occurring each year. Fifty-four percent of these new infections occur among African Americans. A new strategy to treat HIV infected individuals is needed and part of this strategy, should be the inclusion of African Americans in order to understand whether these new therapies are effective in this disproportionately affected population.

To this end, MSM has established an HIV/AIDS Research Program that is interdisciplinary and well placed to track the NIH supported concept of T1 to T4 – basic science research to clinical practice to translation and dissemination to communities. Additionally, we are uniquely positioned to lead this initiative through our history of service to this community and health prevention research activities.
