Continuing Education Conferences/Educational Programs

Formal learning does not end with medical school. Many aspects of psychiatry require additional didactic instruction before they can be integrated into the resident’s fund of working knowledge. A scholastic series of lectures for residents has been developed to include the broad range of issues of importance to psychiatrists.   

 

 Department Conferences

All residents are expected to attend scheduled conferences unless specifically excused. A minimum attendance rate of 70% is required. Attendance records are maintained.

 Grand Rounds

All residents are expected to attend scheduled Grand Rounds. It is an important teaching tool and ritual of medical education and inpatient care, consisting of presenting the medical problems and treatment of a particular patient. *Only Educational Conference open to the public.*

 Neurology Lectures

All residents are expected to attend and participate in the monthly Neurology lecture series The lectures emphasize diagnosis and clinical treatment of patients with a variety of neurological disorders.   *Resident, Students and Faculty only.*

Clinical Case Conference 

 

This conference focuses on an interesting teaching case selected by the chief residents. The cases are selected for educational value and vary from the common to the esoteric. Residents,  involved in the patient’s care, present each case and are followed by a discussion. *Residents, Faculty, Students and Staff only* 

 Journal Club

All residents meet regularly to critically evaluate recent articles in the academic literature related to general psychiatry, for any of its subspecialties. Journal clubs are usually organized around a defined subject in basic or applied research.*Residents, Faculty, Students and Staff only*
