Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory gynecological disease that affects ~10% of
all reproductive-aged women (close to 6 million in the US) and its prevalence exceeds
30% among women with infertility and pelvic pain. In 2002 it was estimated that the
direct and indirect costs of medical care for endometriosis in the US was over $22
billion; more costly than the care of Crohn’s disease. According to the Endometriosis
Association, it is a health condition that receives less attention than it should
despite the fact that it affects at least 6.3 million women and girls in the U.S.
