MSM S.T.E.A.M. Academy 9 -12

The Office for Educational Outreach and Health Careers is committed to helping MSM’s mission to increase the number of individuals underrepresented in medicine, the health professions, and the scientific workforce by providing pipeline programs designed to enhance educational opportunities in STEAM disciplines, intensify exposure to cutting edge biomedical and public health research, and provide preparation for successful application to and matriculation in schools emphasizing careers in the health professions.

The MSM S.T.E.A.M. Academy (9-12) will introduce students to biomedical research and health careers. Participants will be immersed in scientific instrumentation and laboratory techniques, as well as participate in mini-courses and workshops on health equity, careers in the sciences and health professions, critical thinking and career planning.

Option 1: A 3-Week Session of Healthcare App Development, Anatomy, Health Career Explorations, Laboratory Techniques, College Workshops and More!

Eligibility

  • Rising 9th through rising 12th grade student
  • Interest in Biomedical Research
  • 3.0 overall GPA
  • Completed online application

Dates and Hours of Operation for Summer Program

  • Monday June 3, 2024 –  Friday June 21, 2024
  • 9:00 am - 3:00 pm (Hours are subject to change)

Program Cost

The cost for the program is $600.00. Payments are due one week before the first day of the program session. Students accepted to the program will be notified via email and parents/guardians will be provided a link to a secure payment portal. We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. The session may be cancelled if minimum enrollment is not met.

Option 2: Authentic Research Experience (in-person)

*Students are matched with an MSM research mentor to complete a 6-week scientific investigation.

Eligibility

  • Rising 10th through rising 12th grade student
  • Interest in Biomedical Research
  • 3.0 overall GPA
  • Completed online application
  • Copy of most recent Report Card
  • 2 recommendation forms (at least 1 from a science teacher)
  • Letter describing why you are interested in laboratory research and what research at Morehouse School of Medicine are you most interested in.

Hours of Operation for Summer Program

  • Tuesday June 4, 2024 – Friday July 12, 2024
  • 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • *Students who are selected to participate in this program will be required to adhere to all MSM's Covid-19 requirements and protocols.

Program Cost
The cost for the program is $1000.00 for the six-week session. Payments are due by or before the first day of the program session. Students accepted to the program will be notified via email and parents/guardians will be provided a link to a secure payment portal. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.  

**Applications for both options open on February 5, 2024 and will remain open until March 22, 2024 . All application materials should be emailed to ryanclark@msm.edu and must be received by the March 22nd deadline.**
